SERVICES
underwater general hull cleaning

A major cost of operating a ship is the cost of fuel. Any reduction in fuel consumption will result in a direct and proportional reduction in operating costs. Almost up to 70% of a ship’s propulsive energy is needed to overcome hydrodynamic resistance. Keeping your vessel’s hull and propeller surfaces smooth will minimize costs and increase vessel’s efficiency.

Underwater cleaning has additional economic advantages to those associated with propulsion efficiency. Unclogging fouled suction grates improves the flow of water to internal machinery and reduces pump wear. Further, cleaning the hull regularly prevents biofouling buildup, thereby lengthening the effective life of the anti-foulant coating and sustaining the anti-corrosive coating system for longer dry-dock intervals.

in-water surveys

In-water surveys are a reliable, comprehensive and cost-effective means for monitoring the condition of the ship’s hull and coating systems. We meet classification requirements, and carry out in-water surveys in lieu of dry-docking, pre-purchase surveys, for assessing damage, ensuring the readiness of the underwater hull and propulsion system and obtain pre-overhaul planning information. CDC co utilizes experienced divers and a wide range of equipment to collect information on the condition of the ship’s underwater body.

Divers are in direct verbal communication with the surface supervisor and the customer. Each diver is trained to report on hull conditions with accuracy and detail. Closed circuit video and recording makes it possible for the supervisor, the attending surveyors and the clients to talk to the diver and personally direct the inspection, while recording both audio and video portions for documentation.

In addition, CDC co utilizes numerous Non-Destructive Testing techniques to complement the visual inspection such as measurement of rudder clearances, tailshaft wear-down, and ultrasonic thickness measurements of shell plating.

underwater propeller polishing and repairing

While the hull is coated with antifouling paint, the propeller is not. Hence the only way to keep a propeller in shape is to ensure its proper and regular cleaning. Keeping the propeller blade surfaces smooth and inhospitable to countless marine organisms is a key task. When the blade surfaces of a propeller turn rough it results in minute scratches that allow marine organisms to settle and give way to formation of slime turning the blades into breeding grounds for weeds and shell which further compound the issue. As drag increases, fuel consumption also rises. Therefore, maintaining smooth blade surface increases efficiency and improves performance of the ship as polished propellers can help achieve between 3% and 8% fuel savings.

We use underwater hydraulic operated rotary tool for the cleaning of propellers. It is designed purposely for the cleaning and polishing of the propeller and underwater components.

Different grade flexible 3M abrasive heads adapt to the structure of the propeller to all required positions. This process involves the removal of growth and smoothening the surface suffering from cavities and erosion using an appropriate abrasive head. Once the blade surface is smoothed, the buffering follows using very fine grit discs to achieve a super-polishing standard.

In case of damaged propeller blades due to cracks or bends, our professional diver’s offer cutting of blades and balancing techniques to restore optimum performance of the propeller.

underwater repairs-cutting-welding

Our company also can provide underwater cutting and welding services, for temporary or permanent hull repairs, with approved welders.  Such repairs include external doubling plates on hull for immediate restoration of vessel’s integrity, replacement of damaged shell plating with the aid of cofferdams, re-welding of grooved welding seams, replacement of wasted sacrificial anodes, repairs of cracks etc. The ability to blank-off inlets and overboard discharges safely and quickly underwater by using buoyant hull aperture blanks, is essential if costly delays or even unscheduled docking are to be avoided. They allow sea valves to be opened up inboard for survey, maintenance or repair whilst the vessel remains afloat.

underwater harbor constructions and repairs

We offer expertise in underwater construction and repair works to a wide variety of marine structures in port and harbor facilities, as well as cable laying, pipe laying and repairs.

underwater retrieval and hauling up.

We perform search and retrieval services for salvaging and removal of wrecks and hauling-up lost equipment. By the use of special handheld magnetometers we detect lost anchors, chain cables and other metal parts in the sea bed. We cooperate with professionals in the sector of salvage and can offer you global solutions.
